The most common was vegetable tanning. The tanning materials used gave the leather a special fragrance. Today, most car, furniture and clothing leather is chrome-tanned or synthetically tanned, the result of which is more or less odorless. The leather has only a very slight scent. Some of the scent-causing substances used in the past have been banned. Especially some nitro-musk compounds that strongly affected the smell of leather.
Some new leather bags, belts and jackets smell very unpleasant. This can happen if inferior fish oils or other foul-smelling substances are used in the manufacturing process. You should pay attention to this when buying. This phenomenon occurs more often with cheaper goods. Unfortunately, this smell can usually no longer be removed. Therefore, do not buy such products or complain immediately.
Some leathers take on odors from improper storage. It is mostly mold or the typical "must smell".

Always test the product on a less visible area of the skin first. !
Apply the essence with the sponge on the piece of vegetable tanned leather included in the package or directly on the leather upholstery. You can also mix the essence into your skin care. If you are using the included piece of skin, place it in a hidden area. (e.g.: under the seat) The intensity of the scent depends on the amount used, the air circulation and the temperature. The warmer it is, the stronger the pleasant scent.
