If the skin has shrunk, it is irreversible, there is no miracle drug that would stretch the surface back. Its hardness can be improved, but this does not result in a larger surface area.
These shrunken leathers should be treated with leather softener, which protects, makes them resistant and prevents further shrinkage.
Areas of application: Car , furniture, bags and suitcases, saddles
Quantity:
- 250 ml: Enough to handle one or two seats, or several bags, smaller suitcases .
- 1 liter: Enough for a complete car set.
Usage:
Clean the leather surface with the gentle or with an intensive skin cleanser. It is important to moisten and water the leather as little as possible during cleaning!
Antique leather can dry out due to moisture, so always clean with foam only! Tears and cracks should be repaired before softening the leather. Before skin softening, it is important that the cleansed skin is completely dry. Soak it well with the skin softener. Leather with a very smooth and closed surface can be carefully rubbed with the leather sander beforehand, so the leather will have a better absorption capacity. The emollient is a pure synthetic oil, it does not degrade. In the case of museums, preservation is very important. The emollient does not break down over time, but remains in the skin. You can use a sponge or a cloth to apply it.
It is best to treat the back surface of the skin, of course only if possible. For this reason alone, it is not necessary to remove the upholstery, if you do, spray the leather softener on the back surface of the leather. The skin is left for 24 hours, and new layers of the skin softener can be continuously applied in the meantime. It is not necessary to apply more than 3-4 layers, the goal is not to soak the skin, but to get a soft, smooth surface. After softening, move the leather and repeat this until the leather is soft again.
Caution! Very old leather or dried leather (shrunken leather) can only be they soften within certain limits and tear more easily. The product is not a panacea!
The skin will never be the same as when it was new, but a significant improvement can be expected. If we have no further plans for the skin and are satisfied with the result, remove the remaining skin softener with a soft cloth and let the skin rest for 1-2 days. If we want to paint or color the leather later, the surface must be degreased with leather cleaning benzine.
